How hard is it to create a search engine?

Must be Pretty hard or everyone would jump in because of the big bucks that Google makes off of it. Microsoft did it, isn't Bing a search engine?

They make "big bucks" cause they're paid off by the jews via their companies through "advertising revenue". There's a reason some people make millions off it while others can barely afford coffee.

Hint: It's not a merit based system.

Plenty did.

They either get bought out or crushed.

I've looked into this as I have the same feeling.
Search engine Requires a huge database, a front end, a web scraper, an indexer, and a shit ton of data from the dns systems.

Where I think the problem lies is in getting traffic to your engine. Getting people off of google isn't that easy if you created a shit engine that gives poor results. By poor results I mean porn sites when you're not looking for porn, sites with viruses, sites with domain sitters ("you can buy this domain name for $X"), etc.

Then you have the problem of aggregation sites like this one where content is churned out regularly. It could update so fast that your webscraper can't keep up with it, so do you remove them from the search to avoid blowing up storage and allow the scraper to go to other sites.

From there you have the problem of monetization. Say you have a database of several hundred TB. This is financially feasible to keep up, but the servers hosting the data may require backers or community financing. And, you'll need legal for the DMCA requests that will blow up.

This is my thoughts on it anyway.

I think youll find its their intergration with shit like google maps and all the business stuff. Its not just the traditional sit down at pc and search engine its on and in everything.

I don't think an outright clone is necessary. At this point a web ring or a directory would be more useful than what google provides.

On Aether, there is an entire community dedicated to search: /b/Search

https://getaether.net

Several different engines are listed there. Probably the best solution at the moment is

https://YaCy.net

(Yet Another Cyber) is available under a Free licence, self-hosted and you run the crawls yourself. It works surprisingly well.

If you are interested in topics like this, you should definitely be on Aether. (See my many previous posts explaining why Aether is a stronger solution for Voat than a centralized http website.)

Super hard is my guess. A big factor these days is manipulators. How are you going to get me results that I am looking for instead of people trying to sell shit. Or the shit I wanna buy instead of something only tangengenitally related but a much bigger marketing budget. If people aren't paying to be the top of a page they are weaseling their way in spamming keyword or some shit.

@system might be a way to make some $cratch. Make it and sell it, cause this might be whats happening. https://www.voat.xyz/viewpost?postid=61d6f27ee4581

I do not feel that it is too difficult of a job. I have some great ideas of how things should work for the future of the internet, but the issue is that I do not have funding or time. Both of these are given out like candy by the CIA or other orgs that seek the downfall of society, but not ones that want to make society better.

An example of someone public is Go1dfish. great programmer, very smart, good ideas, could easily make a search engine that is better than google, but he works a normal job and doesn't get to do it.

Search is a resource intensive problem. Bots to crawl pages and index them. Saving all of that page indexing information. You're running an extremely simple site and I bet you run into all sorts of problems. Imagine something that has to give instant results about millions of websites. That said, the problem is really about how to make money. Google owns pretty much all advertising. In the early days they would just buy up any competitor. Even then they should have been severely punished for their anticompetitive behavior.

Cough medicine usually helps me sleep,
Although I’m not a dr. Speaking of dr.did you know dr. Pepper can give you a hard time when it comes to getting some sleep.ya it’s full of caffeine.tastes great but it’s not great for your teeth.now as far as search engine’s go,for me it would be really out of my area of expertise.if I could build a search engine out of wood and nails it’ Be easy and I’d be done already.but that would be like making a thing that’s made of wood and nails like maybe a gazebo out of bits and bites.
So I’m sorry I can’t help with building a search engine but I can help be a part of the live internet.
And with that I’m taking some cough medicine.
Happy new year fag.
