So you're saying that if I have a hole, say 36" in diameter, and I put a 35.5" diameter round cover on it the cover won't go down the hole? Conversely, if I put a square cover 36.5" on each side over the hole it will go down the hole?

In job interviews they used to asked retarded questions like "Why are manhole covers round?", and I would respond: "Because the hole they're covering is round." (Here's the big secret: Almost every lid is the shape of the opening it is covering.)

The real question to ask is: Why is the sewer pipe round?
