405 lbs bench for reps is minimum for a man? Haha.

If by 4 plates you are talking the total number of plates on the bar, that isn't conventional. Normally when someone says 'two plates', they mean two plates per side. It's the same with four.

If you're serious about the 405 lb minimum for reps, well, that's outrageous, but ambitious as fuck. By outrageous, I don't mean impossible, but outrageous to set as a minimum for all men. Bench press really ought to be a low priority movement. It's not that functional. I prefer ratios. If you can bench 1.5 times your weight, you're strong. If you can bench twice your weight, you're very strong. Anyway, I'd much rather see someone devoting their time to squats and deads than to building up a huge bench press.

If you are looking for raw power in a combat setting, there are better ways to train it. Say I had a lineman who wanted to be able to extend and drive someone backward. An idiot might think, "Yeah, you wanna bench big for that." No. The power is coming from the posterior chain. The arms can deliver a pop, but it's not really shit in the big picture. They're mostly extended isometrically while all the power is transmitted through them. So maybe a bit counterintuitively, you'd want to train the back. Lat strength will be a much bigger factor, combined with all of your posterior chain stuff.
