If you see my links in the description of the post, there is a link discussing the caffeine content and more (although they misuse coffee terminology bold and dark roast) how the light and dark roast caffeine differences are negligible and that there are other variables at play like coffee bean variety and brew methods most importantly (water to coffee ratio). Dark and light roast are more about taste. Dark roasts are usually made when the roaster has mediocre tasting coffee beans so they try to roast that flavor away hence the dark roasts. Medium and light roasts are more popular today since coffee beans have gotten better in quality.
I explained this to a buddy and he was in a serious state of denial. I tried to tell him it’s not like beer lol you don’t roast the bean for caffeine you do it for taste. I then explained how decaf is made and he started coming around
Heh. Common sense would tell you the more potent something is the stronger the color of it is when diluted. Apparently not with caffeine content in coffee. Dark roasting is used to roast away mediocre coffee bean taste. Coffee bean quality has improved a lot in modern times and this is why roaster don't have many dark roast varieties.
