It’s actually an aberration of the Constitution that requires separation of Church and State. It was meant to keep the government from dictating to you what to believe and worship, but it has been twisted around to mean the government can’t have anything religious on federal property as it is seen as an endorsement. The OP does bring up a good point however because it seems every religion but Christianity is supported by the government. They have a decorated tree every year, but that is a pagan practice that the Christians usurped.
