normally I have to do the evolutionary description myself but I remembered this and am going to steal it. Excellent succinct summary. I have been operating on the theory that it is a "sneaker" strategy for when times are rougher to survive but not a primary mating strategy. The chaos of the modern world I think is triggering a over representation of women behaving like this compared to what you would see in a healthy community

IMO monogamy was revolutionary because high value females have a lot of power in a monogamous society, since high status males cannot replace them with 2 lesser value females. This allows high value females to be very choosey, and males cease to be selected for the ability to murder other males competitors and start to be selected for traits that benefit females. Getting punched really does not benefit females. Getting their asses kissed by solicitous males who want to be the lucky guy to bag Becky benefits females. Monogamous men seem to have a high level of “chivalrous” behaviors and I think choosey monogamous females are selecting for them.
