If the earth is a sphere with a radius of ~3,959 Miles mathematically the distance to the physical horizon (earth curve) could be calculated as follows; ~1.222 (√ Height of the observer in feet) = Distance to the horizon in miles from the observer.

Yet observations are made well beyond these constraints.
