Four years after the fall of Harvey Weinstein fired up the #MeToo movement, few areas of public life haven’t faced a reckoning over predatory male behaviour. So why has rock music remained untouched?

That question could most appropriately be asked of Led Zeppelin, who were ‘monsters of rock’ in every way.

Many of the stories told of the hugely successful British band and their hotel-trashing, drug-abusing, groupie-indulging ways are nearly too awful to print — a fact that has probably helped the surviving members to dismiss them as cocaine-fuelled fabrications.

However, Bob Spitz, American author of Led Zeppelin: The Biography, a new 688-page history of the band, spoke to dozens of those involved and says he confirmed the horror stories were largely true. Led Zeppelin are guilty as charged, according to him.

Timely. Who'd have thought a band with a member who was so much of a Crowleyite that he possessed every book Crowley ever wrote, bought Crowley's old estate in Scotland, and carried on a magickal feud with another self-identified magic user, David Bowie, would be sexually depraved? It's just incredible that they had such unbridled and deviant sexual appetites. It's just so out of character!

Yeah, they were deranged and degenerate just like most bands were and are. They were just the most prominent because of their stature.

Everybody knows that story of page and that girl. It's not news, so why are they pretending it is now?

I found that quote by Janine Safer in the book. Apparently she was their publicist. When you're around that kind of deviant behavior, you have to turn a blind eye and say whatever you need to tell yourself to justify it.

Even when I was young,it was common knowledge,even in media,that any groupie going back stage was doing it to fuck the band. I honestly don't know what the hell is wrong with people.

- It's probably true

- The author hasn't proven it's true or confirmed anything, he's just heard some stories from washed up groupies

- Rehashing this stuff half a century after the fact is retarded. No useful convictions could be made about something that happened that long ago purely based on oral testimony
