I have a theory that election rigging has been happening in Maine for a long time now, look at past elections and find the pattern change. I believe it was used as a test bed for other election rigging.

Democracy is shit, but preference voting does help break the two party system.

With regular voting you have to vote for one of the two main parties or it's a waste. With preference voting you can give a first preference to some rando with no chance just in case other people think like you, then your vote transfers to your second (safe) choice.

It actually makes things slightly harder for riggers since they can't just dominate the main two parties and ensure only kosher is on the menu.

They have their own banking / welfare system. They pay a tax to their tribal council from their salaries.

Then, if they want to start a business or something, they can get an interest free loan from them with flexible repayment terms. And if all goes up the wall, then oh well. You're not going to have to worry about debt collectors etc.
