Little if not at all discussed was a new gene therapy that was in the works pre coof.
CAR-T therapy is basically extracting some of your white T cells, adding in a virus with the mRNA to train them to attack your cancer, and put them back into your blood. The mRNA has a backup kill switch that only allows the cells to live for one generation, and will die if the docs drop a specific harmless chemical into your system.
They added in this kill switch because your immune system could go nuts and the cytokine storm could kill you.
But, what pisses me off about this vaccine is that it shines the worst light on the whole of this technology. CAR-T therapy has been running through things the right way for nearly seven years now. Trials, test subjects, studies on long term effects, tests to determine who's at risk of dieing from a cytokine storm, how to deal with risks, etc. Well thought out and deep approach.
But, as it's an mRNA technology you already have fuck nuggets asking if they can create a vaccine for cancer. Oh sure they can, it'll just kill practically everybody it touches, but who gives a fuck. And, with the whole fucked up heart side effect people who could actually use the treatment are going to be skittish because the vaccine was a colossus cluster fuck.
Anyway, all trials are expensive. Scary bit is that they're actually reducing costs by quite a bit to get more participants. As technology ages and costs get spread over more people with increasingly better techniques the price should go down.
Thought that was supposed to be vaccine for curing cancer in the nigger version of I am Legend. And, they just forced it on everybody. The point of those movies was to trigger a level of skepticism with new technology, which you can see many people took to heart (myself included).
Part of the thing with Sci-Fi is that they get handed ideas about where tech is headed and play with the new tech and classic philosophy to pre program people with ideas and advance the culture, while embedding the lessons of philosophy that people forget. It's a genius technique, but ultimately can end up shooting the people who put it out there in the face (why nobody wanna take vaxx, vaxx good but people hangry).
