Yes, but you have to have immediate knowledge of a felony committed (in Georgia). They didn't know that he had just committed a felony, they were guessing as he had been seen skulking at night previously. They guessed wrong, as he didn't take anything this time. They get to go to jail for life because of it. All for protecting their neighborhood from thieves skulking around.

They definitely saw him exiting a frequently burglarized neighboring house, they were next door to this house, it's entirely likely one of the three saw him entering the house, and it's probable that at least one of them saw the security footage of the thief from previous nights, arbery was that thief BTW, he trespassed into the construction site and stole tools on multiple occasions, they obviously were aware of the burglaries and intended to question him, it was perfectly legal for them to be armed and to follow him in their vehicles, and perfectly legal to ask him questions while open carrying. McMichael senior may have pointed a pistol at him illegally, but arbery did attack.

At worst it could be manslaughter and vigilantism depending on legalistic minutia.

If they were commiting a crime other than flagging him and unsafe driving the law should be corrected to encourage pro social behavior of protecting your neighborhood from trespassers and burglars and then pardon them.

It is like when a group breaks into a house (or any other criminal activity, really), and someone dies or is killed. The original intent was to prevent and punish crime by charging every perpetrator with murder, but should not be applied to people in this sort of situation.

I can say they should have done this or not done that, but "hindsight is 20/20" and all that. It is just bullshit that they are allowed to ignore context and put away three people that were trying to protect their community.
