That's very interesting, as honey bees usually find a crevasse like a hollow tree to live in. I'd like to see the explanation for this open hive.

I saw a documentary once with this kind of hive. It was in India. The bees just build under a large branch like you see here. They also build under rock overhangs on cliffs.
