"Customers" implies that we live in a market economy and that the wealth and power at those at the top is dependent on them producing things that people want.

This is clearly not the case. The people at the top stay there no matter what market conditions are like. People buying tacky plastic crap does not benefit them. The majority of humanity could disappear and their lives would not be significantly altered.

AI is generally crap and doesn't do 1/10th of what people think it does. Case in point, Google search results have gotten worse and worse over the years.

I think there is a lot of truth to this. Many companies were seeking to downsize anyway.
