Billionaire tells California students to live in the pod. Bugs soon to follow?

Berkshire Hathaway vice-chair (and literal gremlin; based on his picture)...

https://files.catbox.moe/z8byoc.jpg

...Charles Munger dangled $200,000,000 for a new hall bearing his name to the school; but only if they agreed to make the student housing to his nightmarish vision.

The complex has windowless rooms for the purpose of cramming more students in per square-inch.

When challenged on this, he kept bringing up Disney cruise ships and artificial windows; along with children hating to share bedrooms.

An architect, Dennis McFadden, quit over this.

Munger stands firm on yanking the funding if the school refuses his design.

He's offering 200M for the building and only the building, which will cost at least 1B to build. He's offering to pull 20% from something no one wants, not to mention it's on extremely valuable land. UCSB is on a plateau overlooking the pacific, and the university does not have much land left to build on.

Any sane person would prefer that 800M go to something that is not doomed to fail. These "educated" administrators can't be bothered with basic economic principles like sunk costs.

And if anyone is wondering why the jew, Charles Munger, chose UCSB to torture undergraduates, it's because UCSB has one of the lowest non-European populations (one of the reasons I chose to go there for my physics bachelor's).

It is reassuring to know there are a few based intellectuals left.

Anyone willing to be a (((student))), deserves all of this, and more.

There are still noble pursuits such as engineering and physics. Cal tech and MIT are the preferred schools but there is more demand than they can fill on their own.

AFAIC the board is the villain here. They could reject his hall. They almost certainly don't actually need it or can find the money elsewhere. They are choosing to accept his money and demands. If you're giving someone millions you have the right to attach strings. They can always say no.

But they aren't. They are accepting that money because there will be graft and there is prestige in opening a new building and all the selfish reasons.

Don't send your children there and if you're an alumnus send them a nice letter telling them why you will be sending no more money.

Or just accept the money, build the hall and never use it. Use the money to build proper student housing.

[ - ] Beelzebub 3 points 2.5 yearsNov 13, 2021 11:45:14 ago (+3/-0)

The building is estimated to cost $1B. The evil Jew is only footing 20% of the bill for his torture chamber.

Damn, and here I made the mistake he was being generous (kek) or that the design was cost-efficient. It could probably be done for half the money, so assuming the actual cost is 500M, he'd make 300M while projecting the image of a generous philantropist helping poor students in need. In actuallity, it is a grandiose vanity project and an unethical psychological torture experiment, and he probably makes money on top of it, too.

I underestimated his cunning. He's not a billonaire due to giving away free gifts, after all.

Isn't "proper" student housing basically the same thing but with a real window and forced room mates?

[ - ] NigsGonnaNog 0 points 2.5 yearsNov 14, 2021 03:08:21 ago (+0/-0)

I'd argue a real window makes a massive difference. It also forces the design to incorporate wings, internal gardens, or other solutions if you want to make a hallway with rooms on both sides that all have windows. Also, conventional student housing—while arguably still too small—is bigger than the size of a closet.

My friend had a pad like that in SF. You walked in and it was a hallway with a bed on one side and a computer desk on another. I remember when I visited him the first and last time I drove around looking for parking and felt relieved that my car was a half primered bucket on bent steelies because niggers littered every corner standing around trashcan fires in a 2 block permiter and making noises.

Here's the thing about housing in blue shitholes like LA. The problem isn't a lack of weird new architecture or building techniques, it's planning laws and graft.

There's really no need for crap like this. The problem of high density housing was solved back in the 1890s and didn't require windowless rooms. This is purely a weird experiment for the sake of it.

pod life, best life.... lol fuck this world.

If it actually stays as a one man room it's not too bad, but we all know these will be turned into two or three man bunks soon enough.

There should still be means to prepare and store food though.

What do you get when you include all the things an asian college student wants and exclude all the things nigger students want?

You get this. It's a dorm room. Stop complaining. If this is what you are complaining about, you are probably a liberal arts major with a 2.5 GPA.

I don't want to hear anything these complainers have to complain about.

Remember what I said about niggers?

I dont think the point is the dorms. It is the fact that this is the massively condensed future that the left wants for everyone. You know, for the environment. This is just the first experiment. Next you will see it coming to public housing, and, in the dreams of the left, everyone eventually being forced into public housing. Again, for the environment.

It's a dorm room. It's supposed to be like that. Every dorm room in the history of dorm rooms is exactly like this.
And the Jews on the left are the ones complaining about it.

I agree with your most of your point. The only issue i have is the lack of windows.
Every dorm room i have seen was about that size, and if was significantly bigger it was shared with two or more people.
