Smallpox has been eliminated from the general population.

Every government bio lab has a strain of smallpox.

The fear in 2001-2003 was that Iraq would unleash their version of smallpox to the world and create a new epidemic.

Ok so its 2021, not 2003, and the question above is why does the US CURRENTLY need smallpox medication. Thank you however for stating the obvious.

Would it not be helpful to have a stockpile of prophylactic supplies on hand to combat some of the most terrible diseases mankind has experienced?

Suppose a rouge state releases smallpox to the world - how long would it take to ramp up and create/release the treatment, starting from scratch?

Also, regulatory rules would allow faster administration of a "current" drug, as opposed to a new treatment.

Why does the US Army have weapons, when we aren't at war? How about "just in case"? Same concept. We are always at war with diseases and need to be prepared to counter any potential outbreaks.

Not sure if this smallpox thing is fud or legit. Lots of people talking about it. Obviously Bill's involvement raises eyebrows. I think you can buy tpoxx on the open market right now but its pricey. Store it next to your iodine I guess.

That's not nearly enough doses to even vaccinate active duty military. Let me know when they buy a couple billion dollars worth.
