All theyve done is made themselves irrelevant when it comes to that info. Even normals understand this. They want to know what other people think. Normals need it. And they aren't fooled by hiding the dislikes. They'll still use YT for entertaining videos but everyone will look elsewhere for what the crowd thinks.

And yes people will craft some kind of work around as well.

No they have done more than that.

I would go as far to say that if the UK digital whatever the fuck bill passes as I've read it, then they could be forced as they have a Duty of care to protect democracy, democratic principles and my access to them.

In UK law for an organisation to have a duty of care is a big deal. You the worker and manager can potentially go to prison if you fail in a duty of care.

Not in a way that will be visible on the youtube video. If comments are disabled it's only ever going to show "comments are disabled" in that space. If dislikes are disabled, does it show a number of dislikes?

Dissenter exists but idk if anyone uses it.

An extension could inject HTML into the YT page and load comment content from another server as well as adding its own like / dislike functionality. The problem is getting enough users to download the extension.
