I owned a STEN mk2 many years ago. Complete, fully functioning, paratrooper model with two mags. It still wore its factory grey finish. Greatest regret ever, letting that one go. I was in it $400. They go for over 6k now.šŸ˜ž

Remember that although these prices are low, so were wages. This ad was from the days of 20 cent gasoline and BA level professionals earning $6-10k yearly. The transfer tax was still $200 so at that time the transfer tax represented a significant deterrent to ownership.

Prices went nuts a couple of years after the Reagan admin (all the same bunch) pushed through the prohibition on any new imports and manufacturing for civilian transfer. The existing supply became the only supply and demand continued to grow. You can still play with new stuff if you pay a tax of $1000/year and have a friendly LE agency willing to make official requests for a demonstration of a particular item. Out of reach for most people. This ad was from the same era as when we were buying 1903 Springfield surplus for $15, sometimes from the government. I couldn't afford much back then either.
