They make tuner pegs with stops on them. I think he may have pioneered that invention because there is no way to do that precisely whilst playing. My brother plays banjo and he learned that tune after getting said pegs for his Gibson banjo. Still an awesome sound to behold!

Soggy bottom boys. There's a foggy mountain boys, featured in the video, a foggy mountain breakdown, which is an often covered bluegrass tune for banjo and mandolin, and the soggy bottom boys which is a band whose music was featured in the movie "'O Brother, Where Art Though".
