What's your favorite type of soup?

submitted by jqueso to whatever 3.7 yearsOct 26, 2021 18:28:04 ago (+19/-0)     (whatever)

It's fall, time for soup.

My favorite is either a simple chicken and vegetable or tortilla soup.

Hot and sour. French onion. Campbells Sirloin burger

[ - ] Fascinus 4 points 3.7 yearsOct 26, 2021 20:14:04 ago (+4/-0)*

If you find a good Thai place, or are good at making food yourself, you might also like Tom Kha Gai, Thai Coconut Chicken soup.

There are many recipes online. I linked this one because it included Galangal. If you can't get it where you're at, ginger is a fine substitute.

That sounds delicious! Thanks

I try to avoid Campbells, but Sirloin burger has my attention.

[ - ] Shotinthedark 0 points 3.6 yearsOct 27, 2021 01:47:36 ago (+0/-0)

Chunky sirloin burger is my favorite canned stuff. I have a bunch in the pantry

[ - ] ilikeskittles 1 point 3.6 yearsOct 27, 2021 06:01:50 ago (+1/-0)

I switched to Progreeso since Campbells became “Halah”.

Too salty.

Creamy tomato, with basil and cheddar cheese.

[ - ] jqueso [op] 2 points 3.7 yearsOct 26, 2021 18:44:42 ago (+2/-0)

I like tomato and basil too, we should hang out sometime.

[ - ] HughBriss 4 points 3.7 yearsOct 26, 2021 18:51:39 ago (+4/-0)

I'm a simple man of simple tastes. Try dunking sourdough bread in it. Fantastic.

[ - ] calx 3 points 3.7 yearsOct 26, 2021 18:49:46 ago (+3/-0)

Pho, Bun Bo Hue, and Bun Mam. (Yes I love fermented fish soup I'm a little weird.)

[ - ] Fascinus 2 points 3.7 yearsOct 26, 2021 20:55:46 ago (+2/-0)

Pho is a family favorite.

GREAT for kids, or for entertaining, as folks can pick and choose among ingredients as they prepare their own bowls.

[ - ] calx 2 points 3.7 yearsOct 26, 2021 21:46:15 ago (+2/-0)

Heck yes! The first time I had it - it was like an epiphany. The Vietnamese have the best soups on Earth. :)

[ - ] jqueso [op] 0 points 3.7 yearsOct 26, 2021 18:53:40 ago (+0/-0)

Fermented fish? Pass.

[ - ] Fascinus 2 points 3.7 yearsOct 26, 2021 20:56:25 ago (+2/-0)

Think Anchovies.

To some, they are gross. To others, magic.

[ - ] Ragnar 0 points 3.7 yearsOct 26, 2021 21:46:21 ago (+0/-0)

Is you chinkers?

[ - ] Shotinthedark 0 points 3.6 yearsOct 27, 2021 01:48:38 ago (+0/-0)

Chink means Chinese.

[ - ] cyclops1771 7 points 3.7 yearsOct 26, 2021 18:53:38 ago (+7/-0)

My wife makes a killer creamy potato soup. It's unbeatable.

[ - ] Zyklonbeekeeper 6 points 3.7 yearsOct 26, 2021 18:55:52 ago (+6/-0)

Cream of Mushroom...my other favorite is primordial stew.

[ - ] jqueso [op] 5 points 3.7 yearsOct 26, 2021 19:01:07 ago (+5/-0)

Primordial stew? Is that what they serve at truck stops?

Florida clam chowder. Cedar key clams, heavy cream, water, potato, onions, bacon, and meth.

[ - ] jqueso [op] 5 points 3.7 yearsOct 26, 2021 19:12:23 ago (+5/-0)

Never considered adding meth to my spice rack, thanks for the idea.

[ - ] Shotinthedark 2 points 3.6 yearsOct 27, 2021 01:44:16 ago (+2/-0)

It has that extra kick

[ - ] Steelerfish 5 points 3.7 yearsOct 26, 2021 20:22:20 ago (+5/-0)

As a Floridian, I am saddened that I have but only one up vote to give…..

This is what my 6th grade teacher would sometimes make after we fucked each other’s brains out…

I love making my man Beef Bourguignon. It's so delicious. I follow Julia Child's recipe here: https://www.voat.xyz/viewpost?postid=60fec162a437e

[ - ] beece 2 points 3.7 yearsOct 26, 2021 19:35:07 ago (+2/-0)

Awesome!

[ - ] jqueso [op] 2 points 3.7 yearsOct 26, 2021 19:53:04 ago (+2/-0)

Beef Boogie is great comfort food!

[ - ] Fascinus 2 points 3.7 yearsOct 26, 2021 20:51:19 ago (+2/-0)

If this is his taste, you might also consider Beef Stew al Pistou.

Good old Pesto works great too. Spoon a big dollop into a hearty bowl of Beef or game stew. Great stuff!

[ - ] NeedleStack 1 point 3.7 yearsOct 26, 2021 20:52:43 ago (+1/-0)

Thank you! I'll definitely try that.

[ - ] ToNigIsToNog 0 points 3.7 yearsOct 26, 2021 21:49:09 ago (+0/-0)

Julia is cool.

YOU CAN'T PEE SOUP

[ - ] Centaurus 1 point 3.7 yearsOct 26, 2021 20:02:48 ago (+1/-0)

Apparently you have never heard of urine therapy. I'll bet they have a recipe for soup.

[ - ] beece 6 points 3.7 yearsOct 26, 2021 19:36:59 ago (+6/-0)*

My wife makes the best pea soup ever. (I use to hate the shit). She made it with Honeybake Ham bones. Expensive, but so good. Last time she made it with a bone from a naturally cured ham and it tasted so bad we tossed it after one attempted serving.

The best one I make is Thai Mussels...dayum its great stuff.

[ - ] jqueso [op] 4 points 3.7 yearsOct 26, 2021 19:54:27 ago (+4/-0)

The naturally cured ham, was that ham hock? Cause it's hard to go wrong with smoked ham hock.

[ - ] Not_a_redfugee 1 point 3.7 yearsOct 26, 2021 19:48:09 ago (+1/-0)

I've never really tried making a badass soup, but I sure do love some beef ramen noodles, with some sliced up leftover ribeye in there, plus an egg. Not hard boiled, but cracked into the boiling water when cooking the noodles and stirred so its kinda like egg drop beef ramen noodles.

[ - ] jqueso [op] 0 points 3.7 yearsOct 26, 2021 19:52:27 ago (+0/-0)

That sounds good, I'll try this and report back.

[ - ] Not_a_redfugee 0 points 3.7 yearsOct 26, 2021 20:30:19 ago (+0/-0)

I like to add the egg and steak when the noodles are maybe 70% done. And I add the flavor packet right at the beginning so the noodles absorb some of that flavor too

Navy bean soup.

[ - ] BoozyB 1 point 3.7 yearsOct 26, 2021 21:20:24 ago (+1/-0)

Hot Italian sausage soup.
Lots of veggies - diced tomatoes, onions, garlic, zucchini, green beans, carrots, celery, spinach, cannellini beans, mushrooms, etc.

[ - ] UncleDoug 1 point 3.7 yearsOct 26, 2021 21:32:45 ago (+1/-0)

Pea and Ham or Pumpkin soup tied for first.

[ - ] Ragnar 7 points 3.7 yearsOct 26, 2021 21:49:57 ago (+7/-0)

All soups are good, depending on the season. In cooler months, butternut squash soup, potato bacon soup, creamy mushroom soup, beef and barley soup, and broccoli cheddar soup are all just excellent.

[ - ] TheGreatWhiteHope 2 points 3.6 yearsOct 26, 2021 22:11:48 ago (+2/-0)

I tried mixing potato bacon and clam chowder and it tasted better than either did originally.

[ - ] Shotinthedark 2 points 3.6 yearsOct 27, 2021 01:46:13 ago (+2/-0)

That's basically chowder with more bacon and potatoes

[ - ] TheGreatWhiteHope 2 points 3.6 yearsOct 27, 2021 06:58:17 ago (+2/-0)

Yeah basically, but the spices used were also different. Clam chowder is more mild, but mixing it didn't overpower the clam. It evened out pretty well.

[ - ] fightknightHERO 1 point 3.7 yearsOct 26, 2021 21:51:35 ago (+1/-0)

Squash and other orange veggies with curry, cream and Balsam
