There weren't many scandals in the 70s and 80s that were directly attributed to jews and media like Hogan's Heroes, Blues Brothers and Dirty Dozen had really cemented anti-jews as the bad guys or a laughing stock. The older people thought it was impolite to speak honestly about jews, and Gen X had been fairly effectively brainwashed to think that neo-nazis were just thugs who hated jews for no reason. Jews were largely laying low at this time. The 80s and 90s were probably the least jew-aware decades in living memeory.

However, they couldn't get away from the fact that to "debunk" the antisemites they had to tell you what their claims were. For anyone who wasn't an NPC this would reveal the obvious truth of their claims. It didn't take much investigation to see that jews had total control of our government, media and banks. Everyone knew this was true, but the great failure of the boomer is that while they'd admit it in private they'd boo anyone who said it in public. To them etiquette and only talking about upbeat subjects is more important than defending their country.
