I have a bought one. But cut the bottom off of a big hefty trash can and sink it a few inches and make holes for ventilation would look similar to what I have and all my scraps go in there and some yard debris and garden leftovers. I turn with pitchfork every 2 weeks
For kitchen waste suggest nothing homemade and spend a few bucks on a cheap enclosed bin similar to the one partly shown here. This compost was from garden waste only - mainly the seed branches from palm trees:

Just build a coop that you can push a wheelbarrow into. Dump this weeks garbage. Shovel up last week's.
