A cougar killed one of my goats last night

submitted by TexasTattoos to whatever 2.5 yearsOct 15, 2021 08:37:39 ago (+17/-0)     (whatever)

A freaking cougar is on my property somewhere, it killed my daughters favorite pygmy goat. My grand perrinesse dogs got there too late. Poor thing was pregnant too. Loss of livestock, daughters hurt feelings, and now i gotta hunt this thing down. Oh the life of an east texas farmer...

The State of Texas considers a mountain lion to be a varmint. It's legal to kill it by any means. Put out five pounds of canned jack mackerel mixed with warfarin.

I can put it on top off one of my out buildings....keep it away from dogs....last cougar was shot by posse of police and game wardens...may be on next seasons Tx game warden show. My bud Patrick was the shooter.

Patrick — doxxed by a cougar

He's a local cop....he has been on that show for years...not doxxing if they are already known...

Poison is an indiscriminate killer. I wouldn't put poison out with even the slightest chance another animal/person you don't intend to poison could get into it.

Got a night vision rifle scope?

Uses warfarin to hunt big annoying predators

Never thought of adding blood thinners to bait. Makes sense when hunting bastards.

That is what is in rodent poisoning. Not warfarin but another drug that prevents blood from clotting.

I thought it was vitamin D

That'll kill a lot of other animals too....including his dogs.

Poison is a shitty thing to do to nature.

Cougars have a HUGE territory, that animal is long gone.

Start yourself a profitable farm, then tell me how it's done.

Poison works its way into the food chain. Bald Eagles get it from eating rodents that have eaten poison. Poison is a shitty thing to do to nature.

[ - ] Ozark -1 points 2.5 yearsOct 15, 2021 13:12:15 ago (+0/-1)

Bald Eagles eat exclusively fish in E.Texas.

[ - ] texasblood 3 points 2.5 yearsOct 15, 2021 13:54:46 ago (+3/-0)

Bullshit.
Eagles are scavengers and eat most everything.
Common hang out is a landfill eating garbage.

This is 100% accurate. They spend more time stealing other kills than hunting their own prey, much like many lions do. Being big is sometimes just for bullying your smaller peers.

I'm already a rancher for 20 years. I raise goats.

Cougars are all over. They are just very sneaky and not abundant. My buddy caught a big one licking its balls in the backyard on a game camera. That was in South East Texas

They aren’t super common but we had a few when I lived in central texas (eastland/brown county)

Nice try, glowie

[ - ] SocksOnCats 0 points 2.5 yearsOct 15, 2021 16:19:22 ago (+0/-0)

I asked because I'm thinking of moving to Texas. Definitely not a glowie. (Ya ya that's just what a glowie would say, huh?)

I’m only messing with you anyway lol

You want a few cougars on the property in case you need to clean up an accident

[ - ] Rawrination 0 points 2.5 yearsOct 15, 2021 17:15:56 ago (+0/-0)

I was expecting a joke about older sexually promiscuous women.

Use a Californian for bait

[ - ] TerryB 0 points 2.5 yearsOct 15, 2021 13:10:19 ago (+0/-0)

Any boogers around? East Texas is famous for them. Nasty bastards. Much nastier than in other parts of the country.

[ - ] 86USSLiberty 0 points 2.5 yearsOct 15, 2021 12:27:22 ago (+0/-0)

You need multiple guardians or they won’t challenge a cougar. I’d get something harder than a Great Pyrenees, like a Sarplaninac or Karakachan.

35 miles north of San Antonio. Almost 20 years ago I was walking to my stand in crisp late autumn when I stumbled upon my biggest Boer goat with his life steam escaping the large bite wound on his neck.

I was glad at that moment to have a loaded 30-06!

I imagine it was a cougar, never saw another sign of him/her. No other goat deaths similar in the 20 years I have been a scruffy nerf herder up here.
