Size dont even come into it. Resources. The African continent has the resources of the world combined. Of the entire world. From lumber to rare earth minerals. Yet not a sail or anything beyond mud hut is created.
I saw a theory just recently that colder climates created more hardships to living and forced the people living in them to develop better strategies and therefore it was advantageous to be smarter. Basically, Africans have never had enough struggle to evolve their brains to the same level.
