Main rig is aging but it holds up well enough:

I7 6700k @4.6ghz
16Gb G.Skill Trident Z @3200mhz
EVGA 1080ti FTW3
A fuckton of storage across a range of SSDs and HDDs.

Laptop has:
I7 11700
16Gb RAM
Mobile 2070S
512Gb SSD, 4TB HDD
Pretty decent cooling for what it is

A handful of VR headsets:
Oculus DK2
Rift CV1
Riff S
Vive Pro
Index
Pimax 5k Super

The funny thing is I haven't even touched a PC game for several months.

that is still a very capable rig and will be for the next 4 or so years.

For most use cases, absolutely. Especially since the monitor is not 4k. It does show some strain under the Index and Pimax HMDs, though; mostly high settings mixed with a handful of things on medium.

electronic are very resilient as long as you cut power right away and fully dry

I like to build my own computers, but I could not find a high-end video card, and so I bought this pre-built several months ago:

RTX 3070 / Ryzen 7 3700 / 16GB / 1TB M.2 SSD

https://www.newegg.com/abs-ala249/p/N82E16883360153?Description=ABS%20computer&cm_re=ABS_computer-_-83-360-153-_-Product&quicklink=true

(They changed it a little. I only got a 650W power supply when I bought it.)

Of course the first thing was shutting off all the RGB fag shit.

The stock CPU cooler was terrible. It would rev up even when the computer was idle, which became annoying as hell, and so I got a decent, somewhat large Cooler Master heat sink.

I also added my 4TB HDD from my old computer and bought a 5TB external HDD for backup. I am still using my 34" LG widescreen monitor that is awesome. It was $800 but on sale for 50% off many years ago.

My keyboard and mouse are the lowest-end wireless Logitech. You'd think I would upgrade them, but nah.

This computer is more expensive than the value of my early 2000s car. Priorities.

The bottom ones are indeed the intakes. It does have a cleanable filtration mesh on the bottom. I still don't trust it, as you said.

I learned not to have a computer on the ground, particularly a rug, decades ago. My computer is on a bureau.

"Additional question, you referred to RGB as "fag shit" now, I've always been aware of people who don't like RGB, but is there any particular reason why?"

Sure. I'm not flashy. I leave my computer on 24/7 and it is in my bedroom. I like as much darkness as possible when I sleep. Last, I see absolutely no point to it. After two minutes, doesn't the novelty wear off?

My last computer had a really good Gigabyte motherboard. It had this stupid greed LED to let you know everything was fine. I hated that fucking LED. I taped over it because sleep.

You rely too much on your eyes, it seems.

All human senses are important. Most particular after vision is olfactory.

2060 RTX with an AMD ryzen 5 3600X 6-core. Built a few years ago. Still doing well! Except for Control that started up with medium setting holy balls. Just playing old stuff like Witcher 3 and No Man's Sky. Really enjoying the latter.

if you are still happy with the performance no need to change.

[ - ] GoatsAdvocate 1 point 2.6 yearsSep 20, 2021 22:50:52 ago (+1/-0)

Play it without upgrading first before you waste money.
