Americans are some of the most overworked people by modern standards. No guarantee of sick time or vacation time and regular abuse of salary (which does not mean exempt from overtime pay). Tack on the hours spent communing in our sprawling public-transit-less cities and the numbers are worse.

In china most forms of protest are illegal, so they have to use subtle everyday thing as a form of protest, like wearing a particular colour shirt on a particular day, or lying down in the park. No one can prove you're protesting, there' plausible deniability, but if hundreds of people do it and everyone knows what it means it's still just as powerful at demonstrating numbers.

the way the amount of work is measured is very flawed. in previous eras there was generally much more downtime in all workplaces. MBA-inspired "efficiency" beginning in the 1980's destroyed that which is why everyone is now quitting their jobs.
