I would have noticed that the gunman didn’t have his finger on or near the trigger. That makes acquisition of his weapon that much easier and safer. Obviously we know what would happen next. I think there may have been a second finna though so that might change things a little.

Chimp instinct. Also, it takes them hearing something 5 times to understand it so they assume everyone else is the same way. It's been said their lack of empathy stems from their inability to "place themselves in someone else's shoes". Whereas the bugmen have the intellectual capacity to do so, but simply don't care to, or lack the emotional brevity to.
