It’s a bold claim, and not mine, but it’s a good primer for noobs and fence sitters

300 BLK is still my favorite AR-15 caliber. Grudgingly retired the .224 Valkyrie I tried to love.

200 GR FMJ for plink
150 GR XP EP for deer
208 GR AMAX subsonic suppressed
115 GR Controlled Chaos for home defense

I remember someone describing .224 Valkyrie as “an obnoxious little round whose only purpose in life is to go really fast…” He said it did its job well in that regards but since I don’t have any experience with that cartridge, I just took his word for it

224 Valkyrie let AR-15's play in the long-range (see: 1,200 yard) game.

For me, it's useless for anything else other than AR-15 PRS bragging rights.

Strictly target rounds have interesting external ballistics, but since I’m more concerned with terminal ballistics on meat, I’ve narrowed my cartridge and bullet choices accordingly

300 BLK is the only caliber I have no problem running Winchester for game rounds.

Interesting — I’ve yet to run a single factory round through mine, but if I run across some white box, I’ll give it a try

I agree with the article. 115gr is the sweet spot for unsuppressed home defense. Nice ballistics+energy out of a short barrel. Rifle cartridges don't work as well in a short barrel. Pistol calibers are unnecessarily weak for a carbine. At 115gr you have an excellent carbine cartridge.

I’ve only run heavy handloads but have managed some impressive accuracy (sub minute) with 180gr+ and suppressed subsonics at 200gr+ are “what the fuck?” quiet
