There are 56 percent more bacteria than human cells in our bodies.

To call bacteria scavengers is a gross oversimplification of their role in complex organisms.

I believe bacteria have more function than to simply scavenge. They have a role when a body is living, and their role does indeed change when a body is dead. Specifically, the decomposition process.

Gif of worm getting attacked by blood cells.
I'm fairly sure that bacterial can behave similarly to living tissue.

I like the hypotheses for the fact that there is much more you can do with your surroundings, but it's quite wrong to not take the microcosm into account.
