Saturn didn't devour just one son. Even using the term "devour" doesn't describe the situation the way it was intended. Saturn "ate" (more like absorbed) his children because he heard that one of his children would dethrone him. They all lived, because they were gods, and Zeus was the child that managed to get away when Saturn was tricked into eating a stone instead of Zeus. Zeus later managed to force Saturn to remove his siblings and then formed the Pantheon. Greek mythology is full of a lot of this kind of storytelling, where abstract events culminate in body horror.
