I've just seen it as forcing people to keep it simple, and also it makes the sites being linked to more visible. It's not a big deal.

It still needs to remove hack for typing h t t p s inside a sentence or part of a long url.

It needs to as a cheap hack, swap one of the letter "t"s with "%54" so that long posts dont get messed up that have a url or two plus a string of "h t t p s"
