We kinda do, The great flood was a meteor hitting Greenland's ice caps

Before that it was a massive volcano or a meteor impact which literally blocked out the sun and caused the vast majority of the population to die off (Look up the great bottle neck)

Plus they almost certainly know what was on the emerald tablets.

Kinda… the compelling fear comes from the problem with absolutes. Do they really have the absolute power and resources they believe they have. Was the destruction of those older systems certainly caused by what they think caused it. When they have so much power and they can’t stop basic chaos very well, why should they think they are any better off than those others? Could those older ones have been more powerful and still not prevented the loss. What hope do the new ones really have in those case?
