Why is no one viewing my applications on indeed?

submitted by obscenity to AskUpgoat 2.8 yearsAug 26, 2021 21:51:54 ago (+12/-1)     (AskUpgoat)

Been having kind of a hard time finding a job. At one point was even sending out fake resumes (still no results). I've had a suspicion indeed is doing something fucky. Today I just noticed not a lot of people are VIEWING my application.

If I send out 10 applications only 1-2 will even be viewed. I suspect I am on an indeed blacklist and my applications are getting buried or something. If I could prove it I'd sue the fuck out of them.

I am well qualified for the jobs I've been applying for.

It is not true that no one is hiring. In my trade I could literally move anywhere and easily find work.

And that is

1) Construction type stuff
2) Minimum wage jobs
3) Government nonsense backed industries

Your point being? Someone needs to do every one of those jobs. Not your cup of tea?

I got a carpentry apprentice job in a week after taking some classes. Construction and other trades need people desperately. Another good thing about most trades guys is that they know the holocough is bullshit and you don't have to wear masks in stupid situations like my previous groundskeeping job at a local university. They made us wear those shits in 90 degree weather weedwhacking near no one. It was peak clown world - got the fuck out of there after I caused massive perturbations to HR and the Union.

I get that. Many good businesses started as side gigs, though. Something small to bring in a little extra cash. It might not be an immediate solution but start looking two steps ahead if you aren't already.

The trick that worked for me was signing up for their paid subscription. After that, as if by magic, real people started contacting me.

I'm sure they gate free users and have bots to 'look at' your resume so you feel like you're getting at least some exposure.

When i was using indeed, i went so far as to claim i was fluent in every language i can speak at least one sentence in. That would make me a genius polyglot. Not one single result.

Thats been like... 6 or 7 years i think ago. Online job hunting is such fucking trash, like online dating.

And i do have some other more serious qualifications and experience besides just a talent for language. Indeed is the one that also has aptitude tests yea? I blasted through a ton of that and scored magnificently well for mechanical, engineering, security, medical, customer service, basic comprehension, all the shit basically. Im one lean mean test fuckin machine. By their own system i am a god. Still a giant pile of NOTHIN.

Im also a young white straight male, so fuck me, right?

[ - ] obscenity [op] 2 points 2.8 yearsAug 26, 2021 22:47:23 ago (+2/-0)

yeah they have tests. but imo some of them are subjective and not really measuring anything.

[ - ] ItsBacon 2 points 2.8 yearsAug 27, 2021 02:09:38 ago (+2/-0)

Just being white doesn't necessarily mean they should. There are some really lousy whites out there. As a race we have some serious housekeeping to attend to before we just go out and say make babies.

First recognize you're applying for jobs in the laziest way ever invented by mankind, and when you participate in the laziest method to accomplish something, you'll get that quality of results. That's all you need to know, you know what to do now. Get off your ass and walk into the businesses yourself, it's awkward and it'll have real results if you keep trying.

Indeed will make their money by selling their resume database to recruiters. They constantly sift through them via search and that's where the "views" are coming from. If you want a job you see advertised on Indeed, just find the company website and apply directly .

[ - ] Breeder 2 points 2.8 yearsAug 27, 2021 06:42:34 ago (+2/-0)

You clearly have no network. That's how you find a better job.

[ - ] GloryBeckons 2 points 2.8 yearsAug 27, 2021 03:17:32 ago (+2/-0)*

Make a LinkedIn profile, make it look good, add a photo of yourself, join groups relevant to your field. Browse around a bit. Maybe even comment here or there. Doesn't need to be a lot, it's just so their algorithms consider you 'active'. You will have recruiters reaching out to you instead of the other way around.

For applying manually, don't do it through sites like Indeed. At most, use them to find companies that are hiring and look interesting to you. Go to the company website, they will likely have a job listings section. Apply there directly. Customize the skills/experience section of your resume to emphasize what they are looking for. It should look almost like the job listing requirements. If you find you're having to exaggerate too much to make that happen, then it's probably not the right job for you (but don't sweat missing a couple things, the listing is often more of a wishlist than strict requirements). Don't forget to include a link to your LinkedIn profile on the resume.

Don't think of yourself as an unemployed guy looking for an employer. Think of yourself as someone who has the skills and expertise that someone out there is looking for. Find them and make sure they know you can solve their problems, for the right price.

Don't think of a job as an employee/employer relationship in general. It's a bad mindset. You are providing a service, and whoever is paying you is your client. Make sure they're happy with the service they're getting, and that they pay you what you're worth. Otherwise, start quietly looking for a better client.

[ - ] Nein 2 points 2.8 yearsAug 27, 2021 02:55:24 ago (+2/-0)

Actually employer here: Just fucking call. Tell them you send an application, but you wanted to call, because you know they are busy and you want to help set up an appointment.

Without joking. Reason you get no feedback is because the other side is overwhelmed with stuff.

Back in 1992 a Japanese businessman told me that the future of the Western economy will lay in the service sector...as the "smoke stack" industries migrate to China there'll be less and less traditional blue collar jobs available and the jobs that are available will be filled with a labor pool that has a lot of competition among applicants ergo mediocre wages...in the service sector earnings are directly proportionate to one's will to prosper, the harder one works the more one makes(until government penalizes and demonizes prosperity )...overall the words that stuck with me through 30 years of owning a Crane Rental house were...this Jap guy told me " it's no longer enough to be successful, ONE MUST BE EXCEPTIONAL"...
nobody owes you a living, get out and make it for yourself. Whatever you're good at market it...go into the bush, cut some sapplings, debark them and make them look nice and then go into the city and sell them as walking sticks, suckers are everywhere and they love walking sticks...other than that you can stand at a corner and panhandle.

Just as background about myself: between mid-September to late December, I had sent out at least 74 applications (a single page resume with a customized cover letter) on Indeed alone before I got an offer. I have over fifteen years experience in my field. Unfortunately, my primary language is a shit-tier one and I had an extremely large work gap as massive black marks (besides being White). Yet I still got a job.

I gave you advice before. Once I myself was following it, I was getting two to three interviews a week. This for jobs in a relatively rare language. I recall your primary language is C#? You should have over four times the job opportunities as me.

Since you are getting at least some views, I don't think Indeed is out to get you.

~~Maybe post a redacted version of your resume and example cover letter to be critiqued on here assuming you do not get mad about constructive criticism? A large set of eyes can point out numerous improvements.~~

~~Maybe someone should make a subverse specifically to help out goats with this kind of stuff? I would be willing to provide legitimate points when I have time.~~

E: !!! Posting even a heavily redacted cover letter on this site is a terrible idea. I just realized it could connect goats with companies, and the last thing we want is that connection. Just use a different site to get constructive criticism.

I know a person who does C++. The moment he posts his resume on ziprecruiter and indeed he gets calls from recruiters. Have you tried ziprecruiter?

[ - ] GrayDragon 0 points 2.8 yearsAug 28, 2021 03:21:54 ago (+0/-0)

I found ziprecruiter to be a pile of shit. But I did try using it out of desperation. Almost all the jobs it tried to send me were completely wrong for my experience. I had found Indeed was the best for me.

[ - ] GrayDragon 0 points 2.8 yearsAug 28, 2021 03:31:55 ago (+0/-0)*

I really want to see your resume and cover letter. I suspect it has to be that. You should really get some others in the tech field to review what you are sending out.

I made the subverse "career" on here and was going to post a highly redacted cover letter to show you what worked for me, but then realized that even redacted, it could doxx myself with all the glowies and jews, and no one needs that.

I'm willing to semi-doxx myself to help you out. Make a fake email address, and I will send you an example redacted cover letter with commentary on why I am writing certain things. Since we are in the same field, it should be somewhat of a parallel to what you need to write. Again, I was getting two to three interviews a week. My crap must have been sort of working with two major faults in my career (shit language and huge employment gap).

While this might doxx me, sending it only to you is a risk I am willing to take. I like to help fellow goats. Mahahahahhh!

E: Just a brag time. One time I sent out an application on Indeed at 8 a.m. I got a response at 9 a.m for an interview at 10 a.m the same day. Alas, I did not get that job. But the CEO was all like, "I so wanted to hire you, but my company is so small, I cannot take the risk with you not knowing [certain things]." Oh well.

[ - ] mannerbund 1 point 2.8 yearsAug 26, 2021 23:25:44 ago (+1/-0)

We tried hiring through indeed, it failed miserably. Shit applications from foreign countries and one legit resume but the dude wanted double what we could pay.

The whole site blows.

Depending on the skill set, I'd look for a recruiter.

We ended up contracting help for 6 months after having shit turn up.

[ - ] 1Icemonkey 1 point 2.8 yearsAug 26, 2021 23:50:03 ago (+1/-0)

I found a few very good people in indeed and hired them. Maybe your company sucks, idk.

[ - ] GoatsAdvocate 2 points 2.8 yearsAug 27, 2021 01:09:35 ago (+2/-0)

Sounds like the company didn’t want to pay an actual wage to Americans.
Just contract em out for pajeet that’ll do it for $4 an hour.

[ - ] SparklingWiggle 1 point 2.8 yearsAug 26, 2021 22:41:53 ago (+1/-0)

Don't rely on those platforms. Here's a couple things to try. Is there a way to set up your race as non-White? Set up a new account from a different IP, use the same resume with a different name. See what happens.

Try to make connections. Without knowing your field, suggestions are kind of difficult, but church groups are good. Volunteer at schools. Find something that might be an easier "in" and use that to step up through the ranks. If you have an interest, like hiking, biking, classic cars, etc look for a club to join. Some years ago, I got involved in a couple of different groups and one day, it occurred to me how many people from different fields I know that I can call on for advice or recommendations.

[ - ] mannerbund 3 points 2.8 yearsAug 26, 2021 23:27:20 ago (+3/-0)

I skip over every non white name I see. I don't bother even reading their resume. Sure as shit am not going to volunteer to work with an other.

You're doing it wrong.

You don't use Indeed to apply for jobs, you use it to see who's hiring and for what. You then find the website, you then find their recruitment manager, and you then send an actual paper letter to said recruitment manager.

If you can't find their name, you send an email to [email protected] or to whomever you think is the head honcho for that particular department.

It depends what you're applying for though. If it's not something to do with computers, you're way better off printing off an intent letter and resume, and going directly to the place where you want to work.

'Ohhh but that takes time, I'd rather just apply to 2000 jobs in Indeed'. Well, alrighty then.

The way I got my job at a nice comfy start-up with no woke anything and a laid back CEO was by actually staking out the entrance of the office building they were based at until around 7pm when their CEO came out - I straight-up approached him and went: 'Hei man, I know I'm a rando, but I've read up a lot about what you do here and about you, and I'd love a chat about working with you. Here's my res...'

He went: 'I'm actually off to have a beer with the team, come along for a beer?'

I had a beer and a chat over a darts game and actually had a good time, job or no job. A few days later, he offered me a job. They weren't 'officially' hiring, but found a spot anyway. I've been there every since.

[ - ] M80TheMan 0 points 2.8 yearsAug 27, 2021 09:46:56 ago (+0/-0)

I’m hiring. I’ve viewed over 50 resumés, said I’d like to interview to 36, and only one actually showed up. A lot of people in my area are using unemployment and one of the criteria is you have to prove you are applying for work. So many are abusing the system it’s frustrating.

[ - ] DonaldJTrump -1 points 2.8 yearsAug 27, 2021 07:52:59 ago (+0/-1)

Never put your race on anything: always out "decline to identity." Also, Indeed has a whole section of prescreening tests. Go out of your way to find them and do all of them. If you're a smart and motivated person you should do very well and submitting them with an application is always optional. Also, applying online means you're competing with a lot of people. 20% viewing honestly doesn't sound too bad but I happen to know that doing the pre-screening tests and submitting them when they're relevant and favorable drastically increases your chances of getting views and calls.
