I recently fucking EXPLODED at a drunk driving piece of shit whore, she absolutely refused to let me, the only sober person around, drive her and her friends back to the same place we were all heading to.

Morals come from a collective group instinct to promote/prohibit certain behaviors that promote the survival of the group, which is usually a relatively genetically homogeneous society. Related. In that context religion is an adaptive behavior, genetically based, to go along with the group and follow certain group rules. The reasons are irrelavant. If an individual will lay his life down for the children of the tribe, it is good for the tribe, and it doesn’t matter if he’s doing it to stay out of hell or go to heaven or whatever. The atheist argument “ I don’t need the threat of hell to be a good person” is silly because we are good because our genes have programmed us to be good. Its not a choice. We pat ourselves on the back for not acting like feral bantu but its much easier for us not to steal cars and gang bang. Anyway, believing we will be rewarded in heaven or valhalla seems to really work to get us to go the extra mile to die for our people. Religion is so ubiquitous. It is present in every society. Politics seems to be taking an increasingly religious form, people have noticed. I think religion is a gene (genes, really) and its a pretty old gene that seems to be present in every existing group. That tells me its pretty beneficial. Even if its irrational. Maybe making a lot of decisions based on rational thought turns out to be not very efficient for survival.
Anyway I try to see religion as a neurological function that everyone has, and the beliefs that traditional religions push may seem irrational but they usually have a survival purpose and when you start dismantling religions, societies usually fall apart. Thinking you are going to hell if you fuck your neighbor’s wife WORKS.
I think that a lot of conservative societies tend to be cold weather societies and pretty monogamous and I think old man winter really shaped our morals for 100,000 years or more. Not including our Neanderthal grand dads. Fucking hos and ghosting them was a practical survival strategy in the Congo for a very long time. Not so much on the Volga though. Same with violence.
Different environments, economies, different survival strategies. Those evolved strategies are morals. Conservative strategies led to restrained, high IQ people who are highly cooperative. Religion helps us root out some of the individuals who are a bad fit for the society. Jews are terrible for our society. But they are smart enough to dismantle our religions before they are identified as bad actors.

Should you want to live that way? No. Is it a good thing that you're trying to do better and find a decent woman to marry and breed? Yes.
