The collaboration between Iran and the U.S in Afghanistan is what caused the opium crisis and one of the biggest victims of it is, Iran. There is a major opium addiction going on there. Iran is a major transit route for Afghan opium which are later smuggled to the Middle East and Europe. Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (I.R.G.C.) is complicit in the distribution of opium as well as it has been said that they've resold confiscated drugs to international smugglers, helping to fuel the opium epidemic. The Iranian government plays a very important role in the distribution of opium and this is a topic that's hardly touched upon.
