Minor issue: See post linking to video, click little triangle icon on left to expand video inline, start playing video. Now click triangle icon to collapse video. It keeps playing audio.

This has been fixed. Videos now stop when collapsed.

I'd assume page would just remove video element, which will stop and unload it no matter how the internal player of the linked site works.

Removing DOM elements can get annoying...versus stop and play just toggles the video, otherwise a "restart" will happen upon closing a video, removing the element, then reinsert and play.
