This....this is why the Chinese are bug people. Life is so cheap over there. Imagine replacing concrete with mud on a multi story building. If you were a general contractor how could you sleep at night knowing you did this? They don't care about their fellow bugs or even for themselves. I'm sure some of the general contractors get executed when caught.

Not if they were part of the in-party at the time. That's communism for ya.

Ants would fit the bill

The book "Poorly Made in China: An Insider's Account of the Tactics Behind China's Production Game" https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5116296-poorly-made-in-china is a good overview, one person's long account. Also some good insight into just how different the foolish whites and the corrupt Chinese are different at some very fundamental levels.

I used to listen to a guy that had a podcast for westerners to survive in China. He lived there over ten years and ended up fleeing. Nothing is made to last over there. Everyone rents their homes, they don't buy, because in 20 years, before you've paid it off, it will collapse.

There was a time when China's steel production was the finest in both Asia and Europe. When the Silk Road was active, China exported tons of steel blocks wrapped in banana leaves that eventually made their way to Italy through an indirect and circuitous route. It was then smelted and cast into steel goods for use in the Roman Empire, including weapons, building construction support, and utensils like plow shears.

Of course, that was nearly two millennia ago. Things have changed, quite a lot. Italy's quality of manufacturing isn't what it used to be, either.

The Chinese of today aren't the Chinese of yesteryear, same for the Italians. Imagine the genocides and importation of niggers for thousands of years.

That was exactly my point in my last paragraph.

They've got tons of modern skyscrapers all over the place. They're still standing, so that must count for something.

Bars by airports are the best. I once had a conversation with an engineer who had quit china.
So the industry standard is to use a computer to "guess" 12 bore holes by drilling 6 but instead the ants drilled a single hole and used the computer to guess the rest from that. The engineer dude said that was stupid dangerous but I don't remember why anyway cheers

all loads are meant to be spread out evenly. i have little clue about engineering but its kind of like remembering the old bed of spikes tricks. its not as scary as it sounds. the more spikey things their are, the less weight is pressed on each one of them which is why the person doing the trick doesnt impale themselves. put all those spikes in one place, lay you ass down on it and relax all the pressure goes to almost the same place and youll end up very hurt very quick.

different materials similar concept to construction. i think. or i could be full of shit. both equally likely.

Chinisium is barely even steel

Can't wait to see how their navy holds up against against a troop of pissed off boy scouts armed with slingshots....there must be a reason as to why Chink boats were referred to as "JUNKS".

Steel reinforced concrete is shit. The structures only have a 50 to 100 year service life due to exposed concrete losing its alkalinity and allowing the steel to rust. The rust induced spalling looks like shit and requires expensive surface repairs while the ph continues to fall elsewhere and more rebar rusts. If kept dry like OSB it might be an okay building material, but that's not now it's used. It's a waste to put good steel into exposed concrete. I am happy to see no good steel being wasted here.
