Would this feature be useful to you at all? I will probably have it be off by default to be toggled on.

If your getting bored maintaining the site I suggest you look at testing frameworks and catching fraud. Perhaps enable the community to detect fraud. Or another biggie is to accept photos, perhaps they are queued up until a moderator had approved them. Voat is important. If your overwhelmed or burnt out please speak up.

You can't right now besides reloading the page, I will get the kinks worked out and flesh it out more in the coming days.

just tested it and it works fine. I will definitly use this to read through uninteresting walls of text while still browsing different content simultaneously. So..

It may be triggered by js, but is it actually fully client-side?

These systems have a tendency to silently round-trip to a remote service for the speech synthesis, not to mention may have "telemetry" built in (if it's free, you are the product).

See, for example: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/SpeechSynthesisVoice/localService

And note that property is read-only; you have no control over it. At best you can check and hope it answers honestly.

I don't think it would be wise to risk instructing people's browsers to connect to some centralized TTS service, run by some globohomo corporation, and send them the things that are said here.

The others may not get it, but I see what you're saying, and you're probably right. I mean, it's at least something a bit different.
