This behaviour is known as narcissism. The persons who exhibit it are deeply insecure and terrified of the people around them becoming critical of them and eventually destroying or abandoning them. They respond by attempting to control everyone around them and keep them isolated and off balance. When confronted with effective resistance they will become incredibly aggressive, wildly out of proportion to the actual threat.

It sums up communists to a tee.
