@Goatboy - When she and her husband were in France, her husband maintained the US embassy library -- which means he had an intelligence background. So for that, I'll give a little bit of credibility. They were both lefty loon liberals, and when Eisenhower was elected, the embassy was purged of Democrats and the had to look for a home and he had to look for work elsewhere. (She talked about this in her book.)
As for the rest, please give some sources. I'd really be interested. The fact that Nora fucking Ephron wrote a screenplay ("Julie and Julia") that eulogized her, almost making her saintly, again gives your point some credibility.
