My guess is that this is some sort of hydraulic pressure causing that. The strange thing would be if it stayed like that. I would think it would fall back down after equilibrium is reached.

Ok any one with a brain would be moving the fuck away. When something like that happens some serious pressure or something serious is happening underground. Could be you standing on a sink hole and the air is being pushed over or something.
