They sure did. I met some people from the Chatham Islands that were descended from the Mori-ori, the inhabitants of NZ before the Maori arrived. They were not war-like, so the Maoris ate them into almost extinction Only a few survived on isolated islands.

They did and it was particularly brutal cannibalism .. one legendary Maori King is reputed to have eaten a separate man every day for seventy four yrs.
