Stringing a bunch of words together to make one big word seems a lot like cheating.

Kinder karneval i understood. then it turned into jibberish.
So in German it would be Kinderkarnevlasumzugsaktivitätenorganisationscomitee?

"umzugsaktivitäte" could be scrapped without the word losing its meaning FSS even kinder is not really necesssary.

I grew up where there was Kinder Karneval and Erwachsenen Karneval.
And leaving out the umzugsaktivitäten you wouldn't know that this is for activities only during the parade.

Hmm true.

Guess you have to be precise even when partying.

you always need to be precise when German.

Thats the beauty and curse of this language, it has a zillion rules that barely any native can name, but you can be precise as fuck with it making it perfect for science and poetry.

I'd like to hear it pronounced so I can start using it to sound smert.

Use it around me and I'll call an ambulance thinking that you're about to have a stroke...speech impediment is one of the 1st signs that the brain is experiencing restricted blood flow.

I was the only one present when my grandfather had the stroke that killed him. Scary shit, some images you can't erase from your mind.

Oh fuck don't I know that one buddy...my mother stroked out 4 years ago, good thing we already had her in the emergency ward...life ain't pretty when things go sour with health.

Nah, but it's still life and I wouldn't have it any other way. I've dealt with it enough to know that we all die, some of us are lucky enough to have someone with us when it happens.

DO you speak a Dutch?

We have a street here in the Houston TX area written 'Kuykendahl'

It is my contention that it is pronounced KERR-ken-doll because it is a Dutch name. But I am told I am retarded.

Can you confirm or deny?

So you can write it, big deal. The question is, can you say it fast 10 times correctly while juggling 5 beerbottles?

Is it really one / a word or is it more like "Rindfleischetikettierungsüberwachungsaufgabenübertragungsgesetz"

A made up wurde by some ass hole local politican which shouldnt be a word but a paragraph describing a law.

[ - ] Flabbygasted 0 points 2.8 yearsJul 14, 2021 13:30:26 ago (+1/-1)

Looks like some made up shit to me. A word shouldn't be longer than its definition.

Germanic style languages are awesome for smashing adjectives into nouns to make a single word.

How we in English would say "red house", Germans (and Dutch) would say Rathaus.

Or they smash two words together to display an idea. Like Schadenfreude. Literally means shadow joy. But means, "That feeling of joy you get when bad things happen to others." Or Futterneid. Which literally means "food envy." But means, "that feeling you get when you order food at a restaurant, and when the dishes arrive, you realize you ordered the wrong thing, because another person's dish looks way better than yours."

German is cool.
