Mother, you carry the fatherland

It could be argued that "tragt" in this case means "bear" rather than "carry". My German is rudimentary so if anyone out there knows which is best let me know.

"tragt" doesnt only mean to carry, but its also more static like in "support"... like "support beams" are "trag stützen". So its more of an emphasis on the mothers being the foundation of society/ the fatherland.

so once again, brilliant NAzi-Propaganda has ambivalent meaning. carry the child, support the nation.

the complexity of german is absolutely necessary to precisely discuss the most difficult topics concerning philosophy. And its poetic possibilities are near endless. I myself speak bavarian most of the time, which is in a way more simple yet more complicated, and i only switch to "high german" when i have to explain something complicated =)

And on top of that, i think that German is just the most beautiful language in the world (maybe except for high-english) all other languages sound slurred and croaky...

I know a family from south africa who fled way back in the 90s when niggers claimed their farm, they dont even have a dialect, they learnt german so well..

There is no "high English" unless you're talking about the Queen's English (the way the aristocracy speaks). It's not synonymous with "high German" (which is a geographical reference).

as i mentioned, i usually talk bavarian ina very deep accent, and it is a softer, more connected and therefore "slurred" language. yet, the real beauty of german for me IS its "harsh" tone. like the edge of a knife. no doubt about what was said, everything precisely arranged and precisely grammatically determined. no way to mix anything up.

I have found this nice example of tthe author "Hermann Hesse" reading some of his own writing.

It is for me the Epitome of what "High German" should sound like.

Dont get me wrong. It is natural for any people to think that their own language is the most beautiful. aside from arabs and jews and niggers, of course, those languages are nasty =)

The only africaans i ever heard came from "Die Antwoord". Shes so cute! and murderous! great sound imo...

i also prefer harsh and precise when listening to music. get lost with all those washed out niggerbeats and slurred speech, i need HiTech

Bis bald =)

Sounds Like Vikings =) precise and powerfull, with a nice melody in some vocals. the oe ua ie oi sounds make it a musical language i think.

"Bear" can also mean support. "Load-bearing beams" for example.

[ - ] Artificial_Intelligentile 2 points 2.8 yearsJul 10, 2021 00:17:46 ago (+2/-0)

yes, the protoeuropean language had "bera" as a word for anything carry-related. even giving birth.

yes, thank you for your input.

Unfortunately, it also acquired a slightly negative connotation ("bearing a burden", "I can't bear to be here"), which is absent in German, where the connotation remains purely related to work and accomplishment; something you can be proud of rather than something to whine about.

Otherwise, and apart from that, "Mothers, you bear the Fatherland" would be the perfect translation.

I mean, 'carry' also can mean 'support'. If someone 'carries' a party, he's the one doing all the work.

i mean. just take this example. nazi memes are still up to standard today. its great! had the meme-war back then done a little better, maybe more nations would have joined Germany in its defense against jewish aggression.

Actually, Mütter is plural, so it's mothers, you are carrying the fatherland. I'm not sure about back then, but today the word only means to carry in this context.

Fuck, I knew that too but it's too late to edit the title. Thanks.

Correct comments, carry or support. Quite a proper notion if there is also a father supporting both. Today's single mothers often rely on the state or others to support the kid for them. Leave the kid with (32 year old) mother--grandmother and continue spreading their legs irresponsibly. No wonder the kids are so fucked up and they continue the cycle of irresponsibility. Thanks welfare system!

That is true. The pic is from a Hitler-era magazine so it was inferred that she had a man (and society) about to protect her.
