They will and can, if they do not like you. Otters use their big evil brains to mutilate or kill GIANT CROCODILES , ALLIGATORS, and even CAIMANS. Watch amazing battle from the BBC :

Here in Canada fur trappers call them "BAG BITERS" because when they encounter a formidable foe they go fir the testicle sack otherwise known as a Jewish wallet. One time when ice fishing I caught an otter and I thought I had a world's record speckled trout, when it came out of the hole it went right at me and out of reflex to protect myself I kicked it square in the head causing it to turn and go right back down the hole where it drowned, my gad still had a bend in it but wasn't bouncing like it would with a lively trout on the line...after 15 or 20 minutes I yank on the line and the weight of the beastly vermin is still there but with no motion. I pulled up the line and I know the animal is still there but it ain't moving. After getting it out of the hole buddy and I notice that the hook, a long elliptical shank belly hook, wasn't even piercing it's skin, it was biting the shank and wouldn't let go, that's how determined they are to follow through with their kill plans, even unto death. That otter is now in my great room with all my other taxidermy animals.
