Saw someone claim that they were a democratic nation and bemoaning this event that opposes democracy.

Love it or hate it mob rule is true democracy in action. Not puppet politicians with a monopoly on power pretending you have a say.

There's an ancient White idea (think: a thousand + years before christianity), wherein the sin brings it's own suffering/punishment. The sinner suffers the sin, or a society that suffers the sinful will reap the suffering brought about by that sin. Remember, we are talking about pre-christianity here, so the idea of sin is a bit different.
