They're the ones that made art MORE about symbolism than art. When ye olde time painters put flies into pictures that were later said to be symbols of death, chances are it's just a picture with a fly and the symbol of death is entirely unnecessary to the picture painted. Of course every picture tells a story and reasons for wanting to put this and that there are superlative. The picture stands on it's own or it's no fucking good.

They can play with their obsession on symbols because it's all infantile, fatuous and childish, as they are.
