Internet Explorer is its own heap of shit. I think the rendering engine was called Trident before they finally gave up and went with Chrome's engine.
Internet Explorer and Netscape (Firefox) were the original two browsers. Chrome is the newest and became better than both of the other two that within 5-7 years of existance, it already had half of the browser market share.

"Better" is a very relative decision, when the browser's code-base is developed by one of In-Q-Tel's core patent & grant recipients.
Is there any tech company today that didn't start as an "off the books" DARPA weapons program?
Legitimate inquiry; given the choice of Google-Alphabet funded & developed Chromium, or Netscape-Mozilla-Firefox developed Firefox/Waterfox - which of the two do you think is most likely to be exploited by nefarious "bad actors"?
Apple created the WebKit engine for its Safari browser by forking the KHTML engine of the KDE project.[4] All browsers for iOS must use WebKit as their engine.[5]
Google originally used WebKit for its Chrome browser but eventually forked it to create the Blink engine.[6] All Chromium-based browsers use Blink, as do applications built with CEF, Electron, or any other framework that embeds Chromium.
Microsoft has two proprietary engines, Trident and EdgeHTML. Trident is used in the Internet Explorer browser. EdgeHTML is only used for UWP apps, as the Edge browser was remade with the Blink engine.[7]
Mozilla develops the Gecko engine for its Firefox browser, the Thunderbird email client, and the SeaMonkey internet suite.[2]
Yes. Theres no about:config for any Firefox based browser on iOS, theyre all Safari skins, similar to tiny browsers on Android that are WebView skins. Dealbreaker
