Is he still pretending he was elected president in 2016, and pretending he was elected in 2020? He was never elected. He was selected. He was a hired actor to be the public face of a "conservative" president for four years, and then to walk off with scripted indignation.

I feel the same way. For decades I was blissfully cynical, seeing politics as all political theater played by actors who were selected by the power elite for their willingness to play their roles without such considerations as ethics or conscience. I bought into Trump's act, and I'm furious with myself for falling for it. I should have seen right through it, but his whole "package" was sold pretty convincingly, and most of all, I just wanted to believe it so much. Fuck.

I think many, if not most, Trump supporters feel the same way right now. It's been hugely demoralizing, which was what his presidency was intended to do all along.
