What is a small auto-turnoff-turnon pump called

Most of the time a pipe wont have water but when it does the pump takes the water and lifts it 5 feet into a barrel

I've always called them sump pumps.

The industrial term is a lift pump. Self priming, could be a single or multi stage centrifugal pump. Fucked with them all the time at my previous job.

Gravity gets the rain water to the barrel. You need a high pressure immersible pump and a pressure tank for your rain water collection experiment to work like a modern system.
