Both of the rounds the female cop fired missed, it was the sergeant that actually made the hits.

In fact, the female cop missed pretty dramatically for a pretty close-distance shot. One of the rounds struck the tire of the police car -- pretty dangerous crossfire risk, plus the potential for the round to tumble or continue into oncoming traffic.

Note that Axon Body cams have a slight distortion, so everything looks farther away than it actually is IRL, by about 1-2 feet.

Source on the shooting: https://nypost.com/2020/09/03/bodycam-footage-florida-woman-stabs-cop-ahead-of-fatal-shooting/

I try not to MMQB too much, but the big fuck up here was the complacency of the female cop, specifically the lack of attention to the entry way.

She basically did everything right, but she did it mechanically -- ring the bell, step away from the door. The "what" was correct, but not the "why." WHY do you step away from the door? Because of exactly that.

There were also other factors that come into play. The original call, according to the female cop, was a "10-63," which is the JSO's code for "dispute." A dispute at a residential location indicates a potential DV.

So thinking rationally, you pull up... and it's all quiet. That, more than anything, would put a proper cop on alert. Why is it so quiet? Could be the parties separated... or one is dead. Or something else (as we see here).

Cops are generally trained not to park directly in front of the location they're responding to, because it gives their presence away and makes it harder to react to threats while stuck in a car. It's very possible that upon ringing the doorbell (or while walking up to the home), knife lady looked out the window... and saw the cruiser parked there and knew it was time to ambush.

Had the cop checked the windows on her way to ringing the bell, or parked further away (we see the backup officers later doing this, they park way down and run up with their long guns), or any of a dozen other things... well this might not have turned out the way it did.

I thought that is what made that hissing sound.

FTFY

I don't like MMQB either but I've been in situations like that, all she'd have to do is grab the arm that was extended towards her, and swing her ass to the ground. She wouldn't have had the stability to stab and in most cases the officer would end up pinning her with her body weight if it was done correctly. All I saw here was pure panic. She even cussed on the radio, that's a sign of zero muscle memory and completely unacceptable. I've worked with scared little bitch dudes before, but none make a worse scene than a female under duress.

Your points are all valid, although the notion of attempting an arm bar on an extended knife hand is risky if you're not either super confident in your training, or at the very least not afraid to get cut a little bit.

Another alternative is to charge and pin the weapon arm, then draw and fire from a position of retention. The problem with engaging the threat at the entryway is that, again, we have the benefit of hindsight in this case. At the time of occurrence, we have no idea who else is in the house, nor what they might have. You might be successful with the initial assailant, only to get shot by someone inside. Arm bar also means a significant chance that you end up with your back to the doorway/windows.

Well, looking at it in hindsight, she got stabbed anyway. Might as well yank her ass off balance and toss her into the side of the house. That's also why I said muscle memory, you're supposed to practice this. Live drill scenarios to build up that memory. She acted like she hadn't been in that situation before. I don't know if she was a rookie, but it could have gone a lot worse had she not had backup. I've worked with women that can handle it, but they're usually the (I fucking hate saying this) the bulldyke type. It's an alpha role and they fill it with a bunch of betas.

You mention the entry way; the suspect exited the entry way to lunge at her. This actually gave the officer the advantage because the suspect entered her circle. But - officer saw the knife and fight or flight kicked in. She didn't know how to instinctively react. If it were me, grab the wrist (the empty side she reached out to "block" with) and pull her back towards me, grab the elbow (arm bar as you said), swing her counter clockwise 270 degrees till her body slams the side of that house, that clears the entry way and pins her at the same time. A lot of the time the momentum can cause them to drop it, but if not the knife is on the far side and pinned. Go from the side of the house to the ground, her partner (Sergeant) was right there to get the other side.

Every situation is different, I get it. But there's a common trend with women panicking, screaming, and having a total fucking meltdown.

Yeah, I think the overarching point here is "literally do anything other than wig out and become a blubbering panicky mess."

Suicide by cop. Wow, even white women are doing it now. When will the Karen on Karen violence end?
